Question

A prestressed concrete rectangular beam has area of cross-seciton equal to 36000mm2 and moment of inertia of 2.7×108mm4. A prestressing force of 195 kN is applied by tendons at an eccentricity of 55 mm from neutral axis.
The loss of stress in steel due to creep of concrete is ____ N/mm2.
[Take Es=2×105N/mm2,EC=3×105 N/mm2 and creep coefficient = 1.50]

Solution

The correct option is A 76
Modular ratio, m=EsEc=2×1053×104=203

Stress in concrete at the level of steel is,

fc=PA+Pe2I

=195×10336000+195×103×5522.7×108

7.6N/mm2

Loss of stress in steel due to creep of concrete is given by

=ϕmfc

=1.5×203×7.6=76N/mm2
