Question

A PT teacher wants to arrange maximum possible number of 6000 students in a field such that the number of rows is equal to the number of columns. Find out the number of rows if 71 students were left out after the arrangement.

Open in App
Solution

LET THE NUMBER OF ROWS BE X.

SHE WANTS NUMBER OF ROWS TO BE EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF COLUMNS SO THE TOTAL OF STUDENTS STANDING = X*X = X2
BUT THEN 71 STUDENTS WERE LEFT OUT, SO THE STUDENTS STANDING = 6000-71=X2
5929 = X2

X = SQUARE ROOT OF 5929 = 77

THEREFORE THE NUMBER OF ROWS =X=77
