A quantity of an ideal gas is collected in a graduated tube over the mercury in it barometer type arrangement. The volume of the gas at 200C is 50ml and the level of mercury is 100 mm above the outside of the mercury level. The atmospheric pressure is 750mm. Volume of gas at STP is? (Take R = 0.083 it. atmK/mole)

P1=650torr, V1=50ml T1=200C+273K=293K, KP2=760 Torr

V2=?, T2=273K

Ideal gas law : P1V1T1=P2V2T2 after rearranging :

V2=P1V1T2P2T1

=39.4ml or 40ml
