Solution

Step1: Find the speed of car

Given: A racing car covers 600 km in 3 hours and 20 minutes.

We need to calculate the speed in meters per second.

Distance =600 km

=600×1000m

=600000 m

Time =3 hours 20 minutes

=3 ℎours +20 minutes

=3×60 minutes +20 minutes

[1 ℎour=60 min]

=180 min+20 mins

=200 mins

=200×60 sec [1min=60 sec]

=12000 sec

Speed=distanceTime

=600000m12000sec

=50m/s

Step2: Calculate distance covered in 50 second

Time =50 sec

Speed =50 m/sec

Speed =DistanceTime

50 m/s=distance50

Distance =50×50

=2500 m

Hence, the distance covered by a car in 50 second is 2500 m or 2.5 km.
