When the engine is still 20 km away from A, an insect starts at A and shuttles between A and engine at a uniform speed of 42 km per hour. The total distance travelled by the insect, by the time engine reaches A is, in km.

Relative speed =30+42=72km/hr.
The rail Engine and the insect will meet for the first time after
=2072hrs
Distance covered by the insect in this interval
=2072×42=353km
In this time engine covered a distance
=2072×30=253km
As the insect will return to A, in that time engine will again cover a distance
=253km
So,the distance left =20253253=103km
Again the rail engine and the insect will meets for the second time after
=103×72=5108hrs.
Distance covered in this time by the insect
=5×42108=3518km
In returning it will describe a distance
=3518
Distances covered by the insect
=703+7018+
=703(1+16+)
=703×1116
=703×156==703×65
=28km.
