speed of railway carriage 1, (u1)=54 km/hr=15 m/s
Mass of railway carriage 2, (m2)=8000 kg
Speed of railway carriage 2, (u2)=0 m/s
By conservation of momentum
m1u1+m2u2=(m1+m2)v
v=m1u1m1+m2=8000×1516000=7.5 m/s
Loss in kinetic energy = K.E before collision - KE. after collision.
=12m1u2112(m1+m2)v2
=12×8000×(15)212×(16000)×(7.5)2
=4000×2258000×56.25
=450 kJ
