Question

A railway train is travelling on a circular curve of 1500 metres radius at the rate of 66 km/hr. Through what angle has it turned in 10 seconds?

Open in App
Solution

We have, In circular track,

OA=OB=r=1500 m

AOB=θ = angle the train turns in 10 seconds

Speed of train =66 km/hr

=66×100060×60 m/sec [Since, 1hr=60×60 seconds]

=1106 m/sec

Since, speed=DistanceTime
So, distance travelled in 10 sec =Speed×Time
Train will travel in 10 sec
=1106×10=11006m
As train travelled in circular motion, so the distance becomes arc length of the circle.
arc~A=11006m

Thus, θ=arcradius=11006×1500=1190 radian

The train will turn by (1190) radians angle in 10 sec.
