Let the refractive index of the sphere be μ.

Applying Snell's law at point P,
1×sin60=μsinr .....(1)

From the figure, we can see that ΔPQC in an isosceles triangle.

Here, angle of deviation by sphere =60=2(ir)
ir=30
60r=30 r=30 ......(2)

Using eq.(2) in (1),

1×sin60=μsin30
32=μ×12
μ=3
