A ray of light of frequency 5xten power four Hz is passed through a liquid . The wave length of light measured inside the liquid is found 450x ten power minus nine metres . Calculate the refractive index of liquid.

The question seems wrong the frequency should be 5 * 1014 Always remember that the frequency always remains constant. so outside liquid speed = c = 3 * 108m/s inside liquid v = wavelength * frequency = 450 * 10-9* 5 * 104 = 2250 * 105= 2.25 * 108 hence the refractive index = velocity of light in air/ velocity of light in liquid = 3* 108/ 2.25 * 108​​ ​​​​​​​ ​​​​​ = 1.333
