Question

A ray of light passng through the point (1,2) reflects on the x-axis at point A and the reflected ray passes through the point (5,3). Find the co-ordinates of A.

Let B=(1,2) & C=(5,3)
Ray BA make angle θ with normal.
BA make angle (90+θ)0 with xaxis.
AC makes θ with normal.
AC makes (90θ) with xaxis.
Now, Slope of AB=tan(90+θ)0=2θ1x
cotθ0=21x
Slope of AC=tan(90θ)0=305x
cotθ=35x
21x=35x102x=3+3x
5x=13
x=13/5
Co-ordinates of A as (13/5,0)
