A ray of light strikes a plane mirror at an angle of 40 to the mirror surface. What will be the angle of reflection ?

Angle made by the ray of light with the surface of the mirror = 40

We can draw


Step 2, Finding the angle of reflection

Angle made with the mirror surface = 40°

From the figure

Angle of incidence = 90° - 40° = 50°

From the laws of reflection,

angle of reflection = angle of incidence = 50°.

Hence the angle of reflection is 50°.
