A ray of light travelling in air enters obliquely into water .Does the light ray bends towards the normal or away from the normal?why?

Solution

Dear student,

When a light ray travels from rarer to denser medium, it bends towards the normal. Here, air is a rarer medium and water is a denser medium.

So the light ray bends towards the normal.

This is because on entering water, speed of light decreases and the light ray will bend towards the normal.
