Question

A reaction takes place at 300 K. When the catalyst is added, the rate of reaction increases. The change in temperature (inC) which can create the same effect as produced by catalyst (experimentally it is known that catalyst change the activation energy by 20%) is x, then find the value of x+69:

Solution

lnK2K1=EaR×[1T11T2] ............(i)

lnKC=(Eac)R×T1

For effect of catalyst new KC=K2K1

lnK2K1=(Eac)R×T1 ...........(ii)

from (i) and (ii) (Eac)R×T1=EaR[1T11T2]

[1T11T2]=EaEacEa×T1

13001T2=(10080)100×300=20100×300=11500

1T2=130011500=511500=41500

T2=375

Change in temp =375300=75
