A rectangle is three times as long as it is wide. The perimeter is 36in What is the length of each side?

Step-1: Find the width of rectangle:

Given: Perimeter =36in and rectangle is three times as long as it is wide

Let width w of the rectangle be xin

Then its length l=3xin

So Perimeter of rectangle =2l+w

36=23x+x

36=24x

36=8x

4.5in=x

Step-2: Find the length of rectangle:

As the length of rectangle =3xin

So, length =3×4.5

=13.5in

Hence, length and width of the rectangle are 13.5in and 4.5in respectively.
