A rectangle plot of land is 300m long and 50m broad. 3 meters wide running midway within it one parallel to the lens to the breadth. Find the area of the roads. Also calculate the roads at Rs.50 per square metre.

Given that the paths are 3m on each side and goes across to the center of the opposite side. So, basically we have on one side a rectangle of length 300m and width 3m whose area is A1=300×3=900m2
and on another side a rectangle of length 50m and width 3m whose area is A2=50×3=150m2
One important note, the area of the central part has been included twice, so it has to be subtracted from the total area covered by the path.
∴ Total area =900+150−(3×3)
=1050−9
=1041m2
The cost of paving the road at Rs.50 per square meter is =Rs.1041×50
