Question

A rectangle, whose length and breadth are 5 and 3 units respectively, has a vertex at the origin. The longer side lies on the x-axis and one of the vertices lies in the first quadrant. What are the coordinates of the vertices?

Solution

The coordinates of point A are (0,0). The longer side lies on the x-axis. Therefore, moving 5 units right of the origin, the coordinates of point B are (5,0).
The breadth of the rectangle is 3 units. So moving toward the y-axis from the origin by 3 units, the coordinates of D will be (0,3).
Joining all the points, the coordinates of C are (5,3).

Hence, option B is correct.
