A rectanglular plot of length l and breadth b has to be fenced where the rate of fencing is ₹2 per metre. What is the total cost of fencing the plot?

Solution:
We know that the fencing is done along the boundary of the plot.
So we need to find the perimetre of the rectangular plot.
The length of the plot = l
The breadth of the plot = b
perimetre of the rectangular plot = 2×length + 2×breadth (1 mark)
=2×(l+b) m
Cost of fencing 1 metre = ₹2
Total cost of fencing the rectangular plot = 2×perimetre of the plot (1 mark)
= 2×2×(l+b)
= 4(l+b) (1 mark)
