Given, coefficient of the linear exapnasion (α)=1.5×105/C
Then, coefficient of the areal expansion (β)=2×1.5×105/C
=3×105/C
From the definition of linear expansion, we can say that
Change in length of the plate ΔL=LαΔT
From the data given in the question,
ΔL=1.2×1.5×105×(11010)=1.8×103 m
Similarly,
Change in breadth of the plate ΔB=BαΔT
ΔB=0.8×1.5×105×(11010)=1.2×103 m
From the definition of areal expansion, we can say that
Change in area of the plate ΔA=AβΔT
