Question 2
A rectangular piece of dimensions 3 cm x 2 cm was cut from a rectangular sheet of paper of dimensions 6 cm x 5 cm (see the figure). Area of remaining sheet of paper is
(a) 30 cm2
(b) 36 cm2
(c) 24 cm2
(d) 22 cm2
Given dimensions of the bigger rectangle are 6 cm and 5 cm.
∴ Area of bigger rectangle =6cm×5cm = 30 cm2
[∵area of rectangle=length×breadth]
Also given, dimensions of the smaller rectangle are 3 cm and 2 cm.
∴ Area of smaller rectangle =3cm×2cm=6cm2
∴ Area of remaining sheet of paper = Area of bigger rectangle - Area of smaller rectangle
=(30−6) cm2=24 cm2
