Given:
Area of the large rectangular sheet
= 12 sq ft
Area of the small rectangular pieces
= 16 sq ft

We know that,
Area of larger sheet = Number of small rectangular pieces × Area of each small rectangular piece

12 = n×16

12÷16 = n×16÷16

Using division rule and reciprocating the fraction,
12×61 = n
n = 3

Therefore, there are 3 smaller pieces.
