(i) Find the area of the path.

$l^{\prime }=8+(0.5\times 2)=9$

$b^{\prime }=5+(0.5\times 2)=6$

Area of path $=l^{\prime }{b}^{\prime }-lb$

$=(9\times 6)-(8\times 5)$

$=54-40$

$=14m^2$.
