A reduction of 20% in the price of sugar enables Mrs. Shah to buy an extra 3 kg of it for Rs. 360. Find
(i) the original rate,
(ii) the reduced rate per kg.
Let the original price of sugar be Rs.x
Reduced Rate per Kg =(100−20)% of x
=80% of x
=80100×x
=4x5 per kg
Quantity of sugar for Rs.360 at the original rate =360x
Quantity of Sugar for Rs.360 at the reduced rate =3604x5=450x kg
Difference in quantity =3
∴450x−360x=3
⇒450−360=3x
⇒x=Rs.30
∴ Original price =Rs.30
Reduced price =4x5=4×305=Rs.24
