A refrigerator was sold at a gain of 12 %. Had it been sold for Rs. 357 more, the gain would have been 15 %. Find the cost price of the refrigerator.

Given gain in refrigeratoe = 12%

Let selling price = x

cost price = y

according to question

$12=\left(\frac{x-y}{y}\right)\times 100$

$x-y=0.12y$

$[x=1.12y]$ ____ (1)

now if selling price = x+357

then gain = 15%

$15=\left(\frac{x+357-y}{y}\right)\times 100$

x+375=1.15y

from equation (1)

375=1.15y-1.12y

375=0.03y

$y=\frac{37500}{0.03}=12500$Rs

Hence cost price of refrigerator is 12.500 Rs.
