Question

A right circular cylinder ans a cone have equal bases and equal heights. If their curved surface areas are in the ratio 8:5, show that the ratio between radius of their bases to their height is 3:4.

Open in App
Solution

Let the radius and height of cylinder and cone be r and h

Let slant height of cone be l

Curved surface area of cylinder=2πrh

Curved surface area of cone=πrl

Ratio=CSA of cylinderCSA of cone=2πrhπrl=85

hl=45

Squaring both side

h2l2=1625

l2=(2516)h2

h2+r2=(2516)h2

r2=(916)h2

(rh)2=(34)2

rh=34

Hence ratio of radius to height is 3:4.
