A river 3 m deep and 40 m wide is flowing at the rate of 2 km per hour. How much water will fall into the sea in a minute?
Speed of water in a river = 2 km/hr
∴ Length of flow of water in 1 minute
=2×100060=1003 m
Breadth of river (b) = 40 m
and depth (h) = 3 m
∴ Volume of water = lbh=1003×40×3 m3=4000 m3
and volume in litres = 4000×1000 l
(1 m3=1000 litres)
=4000000 litres
