A rod of negligible heat capacity has length 20 cm, area of cross section 1.0 cm2 and thermal conductivity 200Wm1C1. The temperature of one end is maintained at0C and that of the other end is slowly andlineraly varied from 0C to 60C in 10 minutes. Assuming no loss of heat through the sides, find the total heat transmitted throug the rod in these 10 minutes.

=KA0.1d+KA0.2d+....+KA60d

=KAd(0.1+0.2+....+60)

=KAd6002(2×0.1+599×0.1)

[a+2a+...na=n22a+(n1)a]

=200×1×10420×102×300×(0.2+59.9)

=200×102×300(60.1)20

=3×10×60.1

= 1803 W = 1800 W
