When string is cut, rod will rotate about 'P'
Torque,τ=Mg×L2 ...(1)

if α is initial acceleration, then,
τ=Iα=ML23α ...(2)
where I = moment of inertia of rod about one end = ML23,
equating (1) and (2)
Mg×L2=ML23 α
α=3g2L
