  • The area A of the rectangle with length l and width w is given by, A=l×w.
  • Here the length is 4m that means l=4 and the width is 3m50cm which is equivalent to 3.5m, that gives w=3.5.

Step 1: Substitute 4 for l and 3.5 for w into A=l×w and find the area of the rectangle.

A=4×3.5=14m2

Hence, 14m2 of carpet is needed to cover the floor of the room.
