Question

A rope of length 10 m 20 cm is to be divided into three pieces whose length are in the ratio 4:6:7. Find the length of each piece.

Length of rope =10 m 20 cm=10.20m
Let the length of pieces after the rope is divided be 4x,6x and 7x.
Now according to the question,
4x+6x+7x=10.20m
17x=10.20m
x=10.2017=0.60
Therefore,
Length of piece are-
4x=4×0.60=2.40m=2 m 40 cm
6x=6×0.60=3.60m=3 m 60 cm
7x=7×0.60=4.20m=4 m 20 cm
Hence the legnth of each of the three part of the rope are 2 m 40 cm, 3 m 60 cm and 4 m 20 cmrespectively.
