Solution

Solids:

  1. Solids have definite shapes, distinct boundaries and fixed volumes.
  2. These have rigidity and incompressibility.
  3. Solids maintain their shape until an external force is applied to them and if the force is excessive they may break.

The rubber band is solid:

  1. When we apply force and stretch the rubber band then it changes its shape and gets elongated. Thus, a rubber band changes its shape only under force.
  2. But after releasing the force, it moves back to its original shape due to the property of rubber called elasticity. Thus, it regains its shape when the force is removed.
  3. However, if excessive force is applied, it breaks.

Hence, yes, the rubber band can be regarded as solid.
