Open in App
Solution

The anion present is Cl. When NaCl is added to the conc. H2SO4 solution and the solution is heated a colourless gas is evolved i.e. HCl. When a glass rod dipped in ammonia is brought near this vessel, dense white fumes are obtained due to the formation of NH4Cl. This is a confirmatory test for Cl ion.
