A sample of 12g of coke was heated till it underwent complete combustion. Carbon dioxide gas thus formed was collected and was found to weigh 44 g. Calculate the mass of oxygen consumed during this reaction.
According to the law of conservation of mass,
C(s)+O2(g)→CO2(g)
Mass of reactants = Mass of products
Mass of carbon + Mass of oxygen = Mass of carbon dioxide
12 + X = 44
X= 44-12
X= 32g
The mass of oxygen during combustion will be 32g.
