Solution

The correct option is A 5.85
Given n1=35,¯x1=80;σ1=4
n2=65,¯x2=70;σ2=3
Combined S.D.σ12=n1(σ12+d12)+n2(σ22+d22)n1+n2
where d1=¯x1¯x12 and d2=¯x2¯x12
¯x12 is combined A.M.
Now, ¯x12=n1x1+n2x2n1+n2
¯x12=35×80+65×7035+65=73.5
Substituting the values in the formula for σ12
σ12=35(16+(8073.5)2)+65(9+(7073.5)2)35+65
σ12=5.85
