Question

A sample of water was found to have a boiling point of 101.5°C at normal (1 atm) atmospheric pressure.

  2. Will this water freeze at 0°C

Solution

  1. Water is not pure because if it would have been pure its boiling point would be 100°C.
the boiling point of temperature is raised due to dissolved impurities in it.
  2. Impurities lower the freezing point hence this water will freeze at a lower temperature than 0°C.
