It is given that y represent the height of the sand dune after xyears and the hill is eroding at a rate of1foot per 20years.

In a year the hill is eroding 120feet.

In xyears the hill will erode 120feet.

It is also given that the total height of sand dune is 5feet.

Then after xyears the height will be y=5-x20.

Hence, the equation y=5-x20 represents the situation.
