The number of trees planted by the students of class 1 to 12:
$3, 6, 9, \dots, 36$
Clearly, it is an AP.
Here,
$a = 3, d = 6 - 3 = 3 a n d a_{n} = l = 36$

$S_{n} = \frac{n}{2} (a + l)$
$S_{12} = \frac{12}{2} (3 + 36) = 6 \times 39 = 234$
Therefore, 234 plants were planted by the students.
