Let the duration of each period be x
$\begin{matrix} P e r i o d & 8 & 9 D u r a t i o n o f p e r i o d (i n m i n u t e s) & 45 & x \end{matrix}$
Here the number of periods and the duration of periods are in inverse proportion.

$∴ \frac{8}{9} = \frac{x}{45} \Rightarrow x \times 9 = 8 \times 45 \Rightarrow x = \frac{8 \times 45}{9} = 40 m i n u t e s$
Hence, the duration of each period would be 40 minutes.
