Solution

Given:

In first school 420 out of 480 students passed

In second school 495 out of 550 students passed.

We know that for calculating percent of a number, divide the number by the whole and multiply by 100.

Now,

420 of 480 =420480×100

=420×100480=42000480=87.5%

495 of 550 =495550×100

=495×100550=49500550=90%

Hence, result of first school is 87.5% and result of second school is 90%.

Thus, second school gives better results.
