Let the total marks be x and pass marks be$y$

marks got by $A=30\%ofx=\frac{30x}{100}=\frac{3x}{10}$

marks got by$B=40\%ofx=\frac{40x}{100}=\frac{4x}{10}$

Given that $A$ got failed by $15$ marks i.e. $y-15=\frac{3x}{10}............\left(1\right)$

B got $35$ marks more than pass marks i.e.$y+35=\frac{4x}{10}..........\left(2\right)$

solving$\left(1\right)$ and $\left(2\right)$

$x=500$ and $y=165$

pass percentage$=\frac{165}{500}\times 100=33\%$
