A sheet of paper is in the from of rectangular ABCD in which AB=40 cm and AD=28 cm. A semi-circular portion with BC as diameter is cut off. Find the area of the remaining paper.

Diameter=BC=28cm [ Opposite sides of rectangle are equal ]

Radius(r)=282=14cm

Area of a semi-circle =πr22

Area of a semi-circle =12×227×(14)2=308cm2

Now, area of a sheet =40×28=1120cm2

Area of remaining paper =Area of sheet - Area of a semi circle.

Area of remaining paper =1120cm2308cm2=812cm2
