At the top of its path, its velocity is Vcosθ only in horizontal direction, So after explosion to retrace its path velocity of one of the equal masses should be Vcosθ.
Now, if we conserve the momentum then 2mVcosθ=mVcosθ+mv
Applying conservation of momentum
m(Vcosθ)=m2(ucosθ)+m2V1
Hence, we get
V1=3Vcosθ
