A ship on the surface of water sends a signal and receives it back from a submarine inside water after 4 s. Calculate the distance of the submarine from the ship. (The speed of sound in water is 1450 m s1).

time to go = 2 seconds
time to come = 2 seconds
total time = 4 seconds
distance = ?

the speed of sound in water =1450m/s

As we know
distance =speed × time
distance =4 × 1450m/s
distance = 5800m (it is total distance travelled by sound)

hence the distance between ship and submarine =5800 over 2 equals 2900 m
