Find the number of pencil sold

Given thta, gain on each pen $=₹1$

So, gain on $45$ pens $=₹45\times 1=₹45$

Lose on each pencil $=40paise$

Also, total loss is $=₹5$

So loss on all pencils$=₹45+₹5$

$$\begin{gathered} =₹50 \\ =50\times 100paise[\because ₹1=100paise] \\ =5000paise \end{gathered}$$

Now, number of pencils sold$=\frac{5000}{40}=125$

Hence, the shopkeeper sold $125$ pencils.
