Question

A simple pendulum of length 1m has a bob of mas10g. Find the work done in moving the pendulum from a vertical position to a horizontal position. Take g=10ms-2.

Solution

Step 1: Given data,

Length of the pendulum, L=1m

Mass of the bob, m=10g=0.01kg

The mass of the bob of a simple pendulum of length L is m . If the bob is left from its horizontal position then the speedof the bob and the tension

Step 2: Finding work done,

The work done is equal to change in gravitational potential energy, W=mgh

The length of the pendulum is equal to the increase in height, h=L=1m

Putting values, W=0.01×10×1=0.1J

Hence, the work done is 0.1J.
