(A). Write and solve an inequality that represents the additional numbers of people that can board the ship.

A small cruise ship can hold up to 500 people

There are 115 crew members on board the ship


Step 2 : Write the inequality

Let the additional number of students on ship =x

Then, total number of people on ship would be =x+115

As given total capacity =500

So the inequality is:

115+x500

Step 3. Solve the inequality

Inequality for given condition is 115+x500

Solving this we get the number of people:

115+x500

115+x-115500115 [ Subtract 115from both sides ]

x385

Hence, 385 more people can board the ship
