A small magnet is suspended by a silk thread from a rigid support such that the magnet can freely swing. Describe its behaviour.

Earth has two geographic poles, the North Pole and the South Pole. They are the places on Earth's surface from where the Earth's imaginary spin axis passes through. Our planet also has two magnetic poles, the North Magnetic Pole and the South Magnetic Pole just like a bar magnet.
Hence, a freely suspended magnet will point in geographic north-south direction with north pole towards the geographic north, making some angle with the horizontal plane.
