Solution
The correct option is D 2 cm left to the centre
We know,
μairv−μglassu=μair−μglassR
Here,
The radius of the glass sphere (R) is 5 cm, and the object distance is u=−(5−1.5)=−3.5 cm
We put the values in the formula and get-
1v−1.5−3.5=1−1.5−5
1v+37=−0.5−5
1v+37=110
1v=110−37=7−3070
1v=7−3070=−2170
Therefore, v=7021≈3 cm from the surface of the glass sphere and the image of the object as seen by an observer standing to the left of the sphere will be at 2 cmleft to the center.
