Given that,
Refractive index of the glass, n1=n=1.5
Refractive index of air, n2=1
Let the radius of the sphere is R and image of the object is formed at v.


Sign convention: Direction along the rays is taken as positive.
Since the object is viewed from diametrically opposite end, u=2R

For the refraction at spherical interface,
n2vn1u=n2n1R
Here R=R as per sign convention

1v1.5(2R)=11.5R
1v+1.5(2R)=0.5R
1v=0.5(R)1.52R=11.52R
v=4R
The transverse magnification is given by
m=n1vn2u
m=(1.5)(4R)(1)(2R)
m=3
Hence, option (a) is correct.
