Here social differences mean the differences in a society which are based upon accident of birth or personal choices. The language, religion, physical characteristics, region, ethnicity, are the elements where these differences are seen. Other differences can be colour,geographical location which can be different but not necessarily leading to social division instead they can be uniting factors if goals are same.
