Question

A solenoid of length 0.4m and having 500 turns of wire carries a current of 3amp. Calculate the torque required to hold a coil (having radius 0.02cm, current 2A and turns 50) in the middle of the solenoid with its axis perpendicular to the axis of the solenoid. (π2=10)

Solution

τ=μ×B
μ=IA
So, τ=(IAB)
or τ=nIAB
and
B=(μ0n1I)
τ=(nIA)(μ0n1I)
=[50×2×π(0.02×102)2][500×3×4π×107]
=50×2×π2×104×(0.02)2×500×3×4×107
τ=2400×1011Nm
